Players of the Week
Quarterback of the Week: QB Cody Fajardo, Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes' offense and their new quarterback might be the surprise of the season so far. Fajardo had a great start to the season and followed that up this week with an even better game, recording an 83.3% adjusted completion percentage while tossing a couple of big-time throws. His 91.5 passing grade was the highest of the week by a fair bit. Fajardo is currently the third-highest-graded QB this season at 84.0 overall.
Offensive Player of the Week: RB Jamal Morrow, Saskatchewan Roughriders
A week after being held to just 20 yards on six carries, Morrow exploded in a big way and helped lead the Riders to a big overtime win in Week 3. He was the only CFL running back to accumulate over 100 rushing yards, and he also led the league with 69 of his 133 yards coming after first contact. Nonetheless, the 11 missed tackles that he forced was his most impressive feat, as it was the most missed tackles forced in a game since Week 6 of the 2022 season.
Offensive Line of the Week: Toronto Argonauts
It was an utterly dominant performance for the Argonauts offense this week, and it all stemmed from its offensive line play. It didn’t allow a single sack or hit on a pass play, surrendering just two quarterback hurries. In the run game, it imposed its will on the Elks defense, anchoring a run game that finished with a league-leading 183 yards on 37 carries. Moreover, 101 of those yards came before contact, which gives a sense of the kind of holes this offensive line was opening.
Pass-Rusher of the Week: DI Dewayne Hendrix, Toronto Argonauts
While there were some big pass-rushing performances this week, Hendrix finished as the top pass-rusher with an 89.4 grade. He recorded two sacks but also had another quarterback hit and four additional hurries. His seven total pressures were second in the league, and he won on 23.1% of his pass rushing snaps, one of the top marks of the week.
Run Defender of the Week: LB Adam Bighill, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Bighill struggled through the first two weeks of the season, but he bounced back in a big way this past week. His 89.5 run defense grade led the league, as did his three solo run stops. He didn’t record a single negative grade on a run play, something no other linebacker in the league could say this week.
Coverage Player of the Week: S Royce Metchie, Toronto Argonauts
Yet another Argonaut makes his way into this write-up after a dominant performance from the team. Metchie was targeted four times in coverage and allowed three catches for a measly 11 yards. Of his seven tackles, two of them were defensive stops. Of course, he also had a pick-six. All of this contributed to his league-leading 91.8 coverage grade.
