NFL Week 10 Game Recap: Tennessee Titans 17, Denver Broncos 10

It was far from an explosive performance from the Tennessee Titans offense, but they continue to find ways to win. This time it came in the form of a 17-10 victory at the expense of the floundering Denver Broncos. 

This was a rare case this season where Tennessee had to come from behind in the second half. The Titans averaged 7.5 yards per play in the final two quarters against the Broncos, over double their first-half average (3.0). Tennessee came into this week averaging just 4.0 yards per play in the second half, dead last among all 32 offenses.

Offensive spotlight: Tennessee had gotten 658 receiving yards from all their wide receivers combined over the first nine weeks of this season — the fewest in the NFL by nearly 200 yards. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine tacked 119 yards (and two touchdowns) onto the unit totals against the Broncos. All five of his receptions resulted in a first down or touchdown, and he became the third Titans receiver to record multiple contested catches in a game this season. 

It was a much-needed strong performance from Westbrook-Ikhine, given that Denver was able to hold Derrick Henry to fewer than three yards per carry. 

Defensive spotlight: The Titans consistently got home with their pass rush despite missing Jeffery Simmons and Bud Dupree. Russell Wilson was sacked six times, and each of Mario Edwards, Denico Autry, Rashad Weaver and DeMarcus Walker recorded at least five pressures on PFF’s first run of analysis. It was an impressive performance by a short-handed unit.

Rookie spotlight: Rookie pass-catchers came through with gains of 40-plus yards on both sides. Jalen Virgil’s first catch in the NFL resulted in a 66-yard catch and run for a touchdown down the sideline, and Chigoziem Okonkwo came through with a big play for the second straight week with his own 41-yard reception. Okonkwo is averaging over 20 yards per reception on his seven catches this year. 

Treylon Burks also returned from injury for the Titans, catching three passes for 24 yards on 29 routes run in his first action since Week 4. 

Offensive line spotlight: It wasn’t a strong showing for either offensive line, particularly on the ground. Both offenses averaged fewer than three yards per carry, and the two teams combined for 22 yards before contact on 46 designed runs (0.5 yards before contact per attempt). It’s been an issue for both offenses all year, as both Tennessee and Denver came into the week ranked among the bottom 10 offenses in the NFL in yards before contact per carry.
